About ‘Dr. Niamh Shaw’s Galaxy Squad’
I’m normally out on the road meeting people and sharing stories and science and adventures about Space. But since March, we’ve all had to learn a new way of living and working. I’ve had to really think about how I can continue to connect with people and share my journey to get to space. But then, within a few weeks of Irelands lockdown, I was invited onto RTE’s Home School Hub to chat about Space and my work. It went really well and I got really encouraging feedback. Soon people were asking me to make more programmes about Space topics. So then I had an idea.
Instead of me coming to meet you where you are, why don’t we meet online instead? Let me reach out to my community of spacefarers, and bring new adventures to you from home. Videos, live chats, activities and challenges. Its a work in progress as we have all had to adjust to new ways of working.
So if you’re interested in what I do and would like to know more, please sign up to Galaxy Squad. You can tell me what you want more of, what you like less of. I’d love to hear from you and together while we have to stay at home, maybe we can keep families entertained and curious about space.

Presenting ‘Space Hub’ on RTE’s Home School Hub for young viewers, Spring 2020.
Home School Hub, and its companion show Home School Extra, is an educational television programme which was created in response to the closure of all schools during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Republic of Ireland in 2020. As part of a special Space Hub segment, Niamh provided #space-themed content to the programme. Here’s the segment about the #Sun, which she worked on with The Ark Childrens Centre, Dublin and Macalla Teo TV Production company.
