Throwback Thursday: Six years ago I was living on Throwback Thursday: Six years ago I was living on #Mars (ish).
In January 2017,I spent 15 days in the high Utah desert at the Mars Desert Research Station with 4 international crew mates, with one main focus- to live as if we were surviving on #mars. It was an experience which changed how I chose to live, and reminded me to better appreciate our beautiful planet #Earth. And that a great crew can get you through everything. Thanks again to my crewmates for an awesome experience.

I went to see the audio visual 360 projected show I went to see the audio visual 360 projected show called ‘Space’ at Area 15 in Las Vegas.
If you’re a space fan you will adore it. But it was more than just an homage to space for space lovers. It’s done in an abstract way such that you can simply just enjoy the music & lighting wash over you. It’s calming and really beautifully done.
If you’re in the area, I would highly recommend a visit. Also @area15official has a lot more activities & experiences to enjoy.
Loved it!

NEW YEARS EVE 2022: Bryce Canyon Utah I discovere NEW YEARS EVE 2022: Bryce Canyon Utah
I discovered a gorgeous way to bring in the New Year! David & I got up at sunrise and hiked for 2hours into Bryce Canyon. It certainly cleared out the cobwebs in my body.
Bryce Canyon is home to the largest collection of hoodoos (irregularly-eroded rock spires) in the world. We travelled down about 200m into the canyon to see the hoodoos from below and above. It was a stunning trek of snow, trees and this vivid orange of the rock. Just ahead of the crowds we also had the canyon to ourselves. Hiking along in the path, I reflected on 2022, thankful for everything it gave me. There were some challenges but overall the year was a good one. Thank you to everyone who s joined me this year in sharing stories about space and science.
2022 for me was a year of new adventures in space and Earth. Here’s to an awesome 2023 for the space sector and our beautiful pale blue dot.

Hanging out at Brazil Space Agency (INPE) and Brazilian Air Force (ITA) all this week to plan @spaceuniversity Space Studies Program happening next summer. We’re packing in a lot in our 12hr days of meetings and site visits, but from time to time I catch a glimpse of the stunning vegetation and landscapes in the region. Facilities for the programme are wonderful and the region is stunning. The press conference yesterday was attended by national TV, radio and print media, and so the local interest in the programme is also very good.
I think it’s going to be a terrific summer of Brazilian space.

A summary of my Science week 2022! From Nov 13th A summary of my Science week 2022!
From Nov 13th to the 20th I spoke with over 2,500 pupils, teachers and families at events across 9 counties, often in libraries and schools talking all things space. We had an event for Int Mens Day, for Int Day of the Girl, we hosted a livestream show ‘Science Week, Live!’ in partnership with @scienceireland & transition year students across Ireland (gaining over 6.5k views & counting), we also made a podcast series with the transition year students which aired in @rteplayer. And the impact continues.
Thanks to everyone who joined me this year in conversation on all things science and space. Tks to SFI & ESERO Ireland for the Discover Programme funding award and @louthlibraryservice, Kildare & @sdcclibraries for all the work we did together as part of ‘Sssh! @ The Library’.
Ok, time to get crunching some evaluation numbers in preparation for all the plans in store as a consequence of all this Co-created work. I’ve had a blast. But I’m a bit tired now. So it’s time for a little rest.
More space and science adventures to come, but for now, my Science week is officially over.
Thank you!

SCIENCE WEEK APPROACHES!! Just 5 more sleeps unt SCIENCE WEEK APPROACHES!!
Just 5 more sleeps until we get to our first episode of Science Week, Live! on Monday Nov 14th at 2.45pm on the @scienceireland YouTube channel SFI Discover.
I’ve been travelling across Ireland all this week to meet and work with these three awesome schools - @st_louis_dundalk_ @rmc_cansat & Sion Hill and their TY students.
We’ve had a fantastically positive response too from science experts who have agreed to join us - astronauts, musicians, immunologists as well as people hosting events as part of @week.of.science.
We have an incredible production team behind us to give that extra gloss to the whole thing, so we hope you join us next week in celebrating science but also finding out more about the science that matters to our young Irish adults.
I’m involved in a lot of other events for Science week & will let you know more over the next few days.

It’s been quite another week! I’m coming to th It’s been quite another week! I’m coming to the end of a STEM community outreach project, which I called Sssh!@The Library funded by Science Foundation Ireland and ESERO Ireland.
And it’s time to thank those who have worked with me on some of the projects that formed part of the project.
Yesterday I visited St Joseph’s NS in Dundalk, because one of the teachers there, Emma Nelson has been working with me all year on creating a new space-themed STEM/art teachers resource. Alongside Sharon Jenkins at Sacred Heart in Tallaght (who I visited on Monday) & Maire Springate & Orla O’Toole at Scoil Mhuire in Newbridge (and I visited them last week), we worked together for many months, after their long day at school. We still have a long way to go with the resources but their input has been vital.
So in exchange for their time, I offered to visit their schools to share some of my recent launch experiences. I was delighted to do it. But I never expected such a huge response when I did come to visit. All 3 school visits have been really rewarding.
And so my last school of 3 was a trip to Emma’s school, St Joseph’s. I was lucky to meet all the pupils aged 7years and upwards. And we had a fine time chatting about ESA’s recent launches from NASA Kennedy & Baikonur Cosmodrome.
It’s been a very special week visiting these schools, overwhelming at times. I’m not sure I deserve everything they did for me during my visit, I’m merely a messenger for those doing amazing things in space. But it doesn’t diminish in any way how much I appreciate their effort.
Thank you so much again SFI & ESERO Ireland for funding this project, working with Louth, Kildare & South Dublin County libraries. I think my best work is emerging. Too soon to say yet, but I’m hopeful.

MONDAY OCT 24th 2022. Dublin. I had quite the da MONDAY OCT 24th 2022. Dublin.
I had quite the day! Wonderful pupils and thank you for the welcome, Sacred Heart National School.
6th class teacher Sharon Jenkins has been working with me on developing a new space-themed STEM/art Inspiration pack for primary schools. And by way of thanks, I promised to come visit. And it was super!!
We talked ESA astronauts, we talked Crew 4 launch, we talked about the Artemis mission and how much more powerful rockets need to be in order to get to the Moon. The questions kept coming, and they were smart and insightful questions. Definitely a roomful of curious minds with a fundamental understanding of science and the Universe around them. I’m knackered, but it was so rewarding. I have the best gigs!!
By the way, the blue jacket is the best gift ever! Thank you again to @sofiatelescope mission for your generous gift in being one of the lucky educators awarded a seat on one of their last science flights. I’ve added all my @europeanspaceagency patches to it & kids are loving it!
Thank you Science Foundation Ireland for funding Sssh!@The Library, my informal science learning pilot project, and an opportunity to work directly with libraries on seeking out groups in their community where the need is greatest. 🙏🏻
